Stanborough Park, mid-way between Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield gives you the...

Over the weekend Stanborough's South Lake experienced what we understand to be a sudden and unexpected algal die back. This is a naturally occurring event causing a reduction in water oxygen levels and regrettably a small number of fish died.

The Environment Agency was contacted immediately and the decision was taken to close the lake to anglers in order to minimise any further harm to the fish population.

Our aerators, designed to restore oxygen levels, are running constantly and we are working with the Environment Agency who are experiencing similar problems in other areas nearby to closely monitor the situation. We endeavour to re-open the lake for fishing as soon as possible when we are confident there is no longer a risk to the fish.
