Kayaking/Canoeing
At Stanborough Activity Centre we run Canoeing and Kayaking sessions for anyone aged 8 and above, from complete novices to those wanting to improve their skills. Try a Taster Session or book straight onto a course to suit you.
The courses we run are set to the BCU (British Canoe Union) Syllabus. These are different for children and adults. See below for details on the 2 schemes:
BCU Paddle Power Youth Canoeing Scheme - YOUTH
Paddlepower is an exciting scheme that has been designed to meet the needs of Young People. The scheme comprises of five awards, aimed at supporting a young paddler’s introduction and progression, in Paddlesport.
The BCU Paddle Power Scheme runs in the following levels:
* BCU Paddle Power Start - Level 1
* BCU Paddle Power Passport - Levels 2 - 5
* BCU Paddle Power Discover - Levels 6 - 9
The Paddle Power Scheme is recommended for children aged 10 - 16years.
We encourage all of our young paddlers to come to Paddle Sport Club to consolidate their learning before attempting their next course, and to help with their long term paddling development. Paddle Sport Club is run on Thursday evenings from April to September.

British Canoe Union Adult Canoeing Scheme - ADULT
The BCU adult scheme is designed in an in-depth way to challenge the paddler. During these sessions you will have the option of learning in either a kayak or canoe with a brief introduction to other types of craft.
The BCU Adult Paddling Scheme runs in the following levels:
* BCU 1 Star - an introductory course for beginners coaching good technique from your first paddle stroke.
* BCU 2 Star - encompassing training and assessment. A big step to independant paddling.
The BCU Paddling Scheme is recommended for participants aged above 16years.
