Consultation regarding the Lombardy Poplar trees in Stanborough Park gets under way
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and Finesse Leisure will be working together to find the best solution to the problem posed by the Lombardy Poplar trees in the car parks at Stanborough Park. Your views are welcome on this and already more than 50 local residents attended a public meeting at Stanborough Lakes on Thursday 7 August.
This consultation follows an independent report commissioned recently which warned that, particularly in high winds, there would be a high risk of branches breaking and causing damage to people or property from trees if nothing was done.
As a consequence the council, in partnership with Finesse Leisure Partnership, who manage the site on the council’s behalf, has decided that a plan to make the area safe is needed and a number of proposals are being investigated. We have also sought advice from our insurers.
In order to minimise the risk to people and cars, appropriate action must be taken as quickly as possible so this issue is being treated with urgency.
The council will be consulting with local councillors, experts and other appropriate groups over the next few weeks with a view to gaining a full understanding of all the alternative proposals before Cabinet in September.
If you would like to submit comments, please do so by writing to Finesse Leisure Partnership, 4th Floor, Campus West, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6BX by Friday 22 August.
